Brief About Western Mongolia

Western Mongolia: Western Mongolia, encompassing Uvs, Bayan-Olgii, and Hovd provinces, is a mesmerizing region. Its beauty is highlighted by the majestic Altai Mountain Range and the enchanting Great Lakes Depression, making it one of Mongolia’s most picturesque destinations. This area is home to diverse ethnic groups, offering a fantastic opportunity for cultural exploration.

Bayan-Ulgii: Bayan-Ulgii Province, bordering Russia and China, is a place where traditions have been carefully preserved for generations. The local people, especially the Kazakhs, have actively maintained their traditional way of life for centuries. The Kazakhs, the largest ethnic minority in Mongolia, have resided here since the 1800s. They have a remarkable tradition of hunting with trained eagles, a practice celebrated annually at the Golden Eagle Festival. Kazakh is the primary language for many, with Mongolian being a second language or not spoken at all. The Kazakh culture in Bayan-Ölgii is shaped by Islamic traditions.
