Mongolia Tours- FAQs

Do you offer private or group tours?

Private vs Group Mongolia Tours

Many travelers prefer group tours to reduce costs. However, finding a group tour that matches your travel dates is not always easy, as group departures run on fixed schedules. All tours listed on this page are private tours. You can review the price based on your group size and travel preferences. If you are traveling solo and looking to save money, we recommend checking our Mongolia Group Tours. If you are traveling with friends or family, a private tour can often be more convenient and comfortable.

Can we customize our Mongolia tour?

Customized Mongolia Tours

Yes, all our Mongolia tours can be customized. Since most of our tours are private, we can adjust the itinerary based on your travel dates, interests, and budget. You can modify the tour duration, destinations, accommodation type, and activities. Whether you want to explore the Gobi Desert, Central Mongolia, Northern Mongolia, or combine multiple regions, we can tailor the trip to your needs. Simply send us your preferred travel dates and group size, and we will suggest a suitable itinerary.

What types of accommodation are available in Mongolia?

In rural areas, instead of hotels, seasonal ger camps serve tourists.

What is a ger camp?

Standard Ger Camps are like hotels, but instead of rooms, you sleep in a Ger. These camps are usually near famous places. A Standard Ger has 2 to 4 single beds, a small table, a stove to keep warm. And sometimes a a shelf or a small sink. There is no bathroom inside the ger. You will use clean toilets and hot showers in another building nearby. There is also a place to eat, and sometimes a small bar or game room.
Some camps have Ensuite Gers. These have a private bathroom inside the ger. If you want this type, please tell us. We can book it for you, but it costs extra. Please note that ensuite gers are not available at all tourist destinations, and some ger camps have only a few ensuite gers.

What Are Ger Guesthouses? ( Nomad’s extra ger)

Some nomadic families living in national parks or tourist areas run small businesses renting ger accommodations to backpackers. This gives you a chance to experience the real nomadic lifestyle up close. These usually have 4–6 beds and are shared only with your group, not with others. Keep in mind, many nomadic families don’t have formal toilets at their summer homes. Instead, you’ll find simple toilet trenches, often screened on three sides. Also, most ger guesthouses may not have shower facilities, so be prepared for basic living conditions.

Hotels

In Ulaanbaatar, it is usually more cost-effective to book your hotel independently through Booking.com or similar websites and purchase the tour separately from a tour company. However, if you prefer, we can include hotel accommodation in your tour upon request.

When is the best time to visit Mongolia?

What is the best time to go on Mongolia tours, and what is the weather like?

Planning Mongolia tours? The best time to visit Mongolia is from 20 May to 15 September, when the weather is warm and travel is easiest. Mongolia has four very different seasons, with big temperature changes between day and night. Each season offers a unique experience—from green summer steppe to snowy winter landscapes.

Summer (June – August)

Warm and sunny, with daytime temperatures +18°C to +33°C and nights +8°C to +20°C. July and August are the hottest months, especially in the Gobi Desert. This is the most popular season for tours and perfect for exploring Mongolia’s green steppe.

Autumn (Late August – October)

Mild days +5°C to +25°C and cooler nights -5°C to +12°C. The landscapes turn vibrant with autumn colors, tourist crowds are smaller, and visiting nomadic families is very pleasant.

Spring (March – May)

Cool and windy, with daytime temperatures -2°C to +20°C and nights -15°C to 0°C. March can still be quite cold, while May brings milder weather and blossoming landscapes. This season is ideal for cultural experiences.

Winter (November – Mid-February)

Very cold, with daytime temperatures -10°C to -25°C and nights dropping to -35°C. Snow-covered landscapes and winter activities attract adventurous travelers seeking an authentic winter experience.

Tip: Always pack warm layers, even in summer, because nights can get chilly. Choosing the right season makes your Mongolia tours more enjoyable—summer for comfort, autumn for colors, spring for local experiences, and winter for adventure.
